A field report from the government surplus economy
Every night a scraper walks four Indian government auction portals — MSTC, GeM, BAANKNET, IREPS — and records what the Republic is liquidating: seized gold, retired trucks, whole forests, power plants, a convention centre. This is 137,933 lots gathered over 44 days, mapped onto real state boundaries.
Every state shaded by its total on the chosen measure; a vermilion outline marks states with customs-seizure lots.
One category dwarfs all others: forest produce — tendu leaf, teak, bamboo — auctioned by the truckload, mostly from central India.
New lots first seen per day across the collection window.
The most valuable lots are real estate; the most interesting (by the pipeline's own score) are the odd, specific things.
